It is expected that Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will arrive in the United Arab Emirates around October 6 in anticipation of the one-off Test match against Afghanistan, which is scheduled to commence on October 9 at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Najmul Hossain was unable to travel to the UAE with his colleagues due to his illness during Bangladesh’s Asian Games assignment in Japan. BCB medical professionals confirmed the presence of an infection following the testing; however, influenza and COVID-19 were excluded. At that time, he was unable to depart with the rest of the travelling party and was confined to his hotel room.
Shanto was confined to his hotel room for an extended period of time after Bangladesh arrived in Japan due to a low-grade fever. The restricted environment exacerbated the difficulty of recuperation.
Bangladesh will be optimistic that Najmul Hossain will regain his full fitness as they prepare for a demanding white-ball schedule in the wake of the one-off Test.
The one-time Test match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be held at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 13. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe are scheduled to participate in an ODI tri-series from October 17 to 23 following the Test.

It is anticipated that Najmul Hossain will contribute significantly to the tri-series if he thoroughly recovers from the illness that prevented him from competing in the Asian Games. The initial two games of the tri-series will be played in Abu Dhabi, while the subsequent games will be played in Sharjah. His leadership and batting abilities will be essential for the team to deliver exceptional performances in the upcoming games in the United Arab Emirates.
