The Perth Scorchers have signed England opener Zak Crawley to a one-year contract for the Big Bash League season 2026-2027. The Kent batter will be available throughout the competition, including the finals. On September 29, 2026, the signing was officially announced.

Zak Crawley replaces Finn Allen, a New Zealand opener who left for the Melbourne Stars on a three-year contract worth more than half a million dollars in just the first season. The Scorchers won a historic sixth men’s championship last season thanks to Allen’s tournament-leading 466 runs.

Crawley joins leg-spinner Calvin Harrison as the Scorchers’ second English signing. The club will be led by head coach Adam Voges in the coming season.

Why did the Perth Scorchers chose Zak Crawley?

Zak Crawley is well-versed in the Scorchers setup. Prior to being selected by Perth in the overseas player draft for the 2023-24 season, he appeared in eight Big Bash games with the Hobart Hurricanes from 2022 to 2023. He scored 155 runs in six games for the squad that season, including a perfect 65 against the Hobart Hurricanes.

He was an obvious choice to fill the top-order berth due to his familiarity with a number of Scorchers players and the Perth climate. Adam Voges, the Perth Scorchers’ head coach, discussed the signing, and Crawley expressed excitement about his return.

Before the season, what is Zak Crawley’s background in cricket?

Zak Crawley has scored 3,586 runs for England in Tests, with his first century of 267 against Pakistan in 2020 being his second highest total. at the fourth Test of the 2023 Ashes at Manchester, he also scored 189. Despite playing nine ODIs for England, the most recent in January 2026 in Sri Lanka, Crawley has yet to receive a T20 international cap.
