Ravindra Jadeja is one of 16 players chosen to play for Saurashtra in their first Ranji Trophy game of 2026–2027, which will be at home against Chhattisgarh at Rajkot’s Niranjan Shah Stadium. For the 92nd season of India’s best local first-class cricket league, which starts on October 11, Saurashtra is in Elite Group B with Andhra, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Punjab, and Tripura.

India beat the West Indies 2-1 in a recent ODI series, which is why Ravindra Jadeja was picked. The all-rounder with a left arm spin bowled two wickets in two of those games without facing a bat delivery. Since they lost in the group stage in 2025–2026, the team wants to get back on track, and Jaydev Unadkat is still captain.

Except for all-rounder Arth Yadav and seamer Neel Pandya, Saurashtra has kept 14 players from the team that played last season.

What does Ravindra Jadeja’s batting with red balls in Rajkot mean for India’s Test schedule?

Before India’s two-Test tour of New Zealand next month, this Ranji Trophy match is a great chance for Ravindra Jadeja to improve his red-ball skills. From November 19–23, the first Test will be held in Wellington. From November 27–December 1, the second Test will be held in Christchurch. Before that, Jadeja will want to enjoy some time in the middle during a real game, since she didn’t get to play an innings at the crease during the West Indies ODI series.

How does Saurashtra’s bowling attack look now that a lot of people have changed?

After making a name for himself with Sussex as a county player, where he took 28 wickets at an average of 22.21 in seven games, Unadkat now plays in his first Ranji Trophy game. That result included two four-wicket efforts and a five-wicket haul of 5 for 32 against Hampshire. He and Chetan Sakariya will both throw the new ball. Arpit Vasavada, Chirag Jani, and Jay Gohil will bat in different positions, and Harvik Desai will be in charge of the gloves behind the stumps.

For this season, left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja is moving to Chhattisgarh. This means that Saurashtra also needs to rearrange their spin choices. In addition to Ravindra Jadeja, Parth Bhut will be in charge of more of the spin bowling. The two-time winners of the Ranji Trophy—Unadkat led them to victories in 2019–20 and 2022–2023) will try to make it far past the group stage this time.
