For the three-match T20I series coming up in Australia, New Zealand Cricket has added two experienced former internationals to the White Ferns’ coaching staff. Along with interim head coach Dean Brownlie, Martin Guptill and Andre Adams have been confirmed as support staff. The team is set to leave for Australia on October 12.
Brownlie, a former top-order batter for the New Zealand men’s team, was named temporary head coach after Ben Sawyer quit in September after the high-performance structure for women was reviewed. He has only been hired for these three T20I matches in Australia.
In what ways do Guptill and Adams bring experience to the White Ferns team?
Between 2009 and 2022, Guptill played 367 times for New Zealand in all types of international games, making him one of the most experienced players the country has ever produced. His role as a coach is based on the fact that he has played both batting and fielding at the highest level.
Adams played 47 times for New Zealand, mostly in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) from 2001 to 2007. He was an all-rounder with medium-fast bowling. He is used to being around the White Ferns because he toured with the team in 2017 and 2023. His most recent job as a coach was with Birmingham Phoenix in the women’s Hundred, which gave him experience with the best women’s cricket right now.
